Component Sync for Jira Cloud FAQ

What is Component Sync used for?

Component Sync allows you to synchronize Jira components across multiple projects, ensuring consistency in your component management and organization. This is particularly useful in organizations with multiple projects that need unified component structures.

Can I synchronize components between different Jira instances?

Currently, Component Sync works within a single Jira instance. Cross-instance synchronization is not supported at this time, but you can synchronize components across any number of projects within your instance.

What happens if a component already exists in the target project?

Component Sync will detect existing components and can be configured to either skip them, merge them, or update them based on your synchronization rules. You can choose the behavior during configuration.

Can I roll back component synchronization?

Component changes can be rolled back through your Jira audit log or by manually reverting changes in the Component Sync configuration panel. We recommend testing synchronization rules on non-production projects first.

How often are components synchronized?

Component synchronization can be set to automatic (real-time) or manual (on-demand). You can configure this in the Component Sync Configuration settings.

Are there limitations on the number of components that can be synchronized?

Component Sync can handle large numbers of components (100+), though performance may vary with extremely large sets (1000+). For optimal performance, we recommend organizing components into logical groups.

Can I synchronize components with specific naming patterns?

Yes, you can use pattern matching and filters to synchronize only components that match specific naming conventions or criteria.

What if I need to exclude certain components from synchronization?

You can create exclusion rules in the Component Sync Configuration to prevent specific components from being synchronized, giving you fine-grained control over which components are included.
